St. Bernard's faculty and administration invite you to join us either in-person or virtually for our “Academic Series": a year-long sequence featuring a 30-35 minute lecture followed by (a) a faculty respondent, (b) a student respondent, and (c) substantive Q&A.

We invite you to join us this fall semester on Friday, November 8th, at 7:00pm EDT, with Dr. Marco Stango as the primary lecturer, followed by Stephen Loughlin, Ph.D., as faculty respondent, and Jason Bach as student respondent on the topic of:

Lecturer

Marco Stango, Ph.D. Associate Professor of Philosophy

Dr. Marco Stango is Associate Professor of Philosophy at St. Bernard's School of Theology and Ministry. Dr. Stango did his graduate studies in philosophy at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Milan (Italy) and the University of Macerata (Italy). Before coming to St. Bernard's, he was Assistant Professor of Philosophy at DeSales University in Allentown, PA, but he has also worked for other universities, both in the U.S. and Chile. He has articles published in various academic journals, including International Philosophical Quarterly, Proceedings of the American Catholic Philosophical Association, The Heythrop Journal, Idealistic Studies, and Transactions of the Charles S. Peirce Society. He is interested in the Catholic philosophical tradition, the history of philosophy, and all topics lying at the intersection of metaphysics and anthropology.


Faculty & Student Respondents

Stephen Loughlin, Ph.D. Faculty Respondent

Dr. Stephen J. Loughlin is President and Professor of Philosophy at St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry in Rochester, NY. Dr. Loughlin earned his Master's and Doctorate in Philosophy at the University of Toronto. Before coming to St. Bernard’s, Dr. Loughlin was an Associate Professor of Philosophy and the Chair of the Department of Philosophy and Theology at DeSales University in Center Valley, PA., a position he held for almost 20 years. Dr. Loughlin’s academic work has appeared in The Thomist, Nova et Vetera, Pro Ecclesia, and Josephinum, and his areas of research interest include Medieval philosophy and Thomistic anthropology. Dr. Loughlin deeply loves teaching, having engaged in the profession for over 25 years. Dr. Loughlin has been married for the past 30 years to his lovely wife Carol who recently retired as a NICU nurse.


Jason Bach Student Respondent

Jason Bach served as a US Marine from 1995 – 1999, then went on to receive his BA in English Literature in 2006 from DeSales University. He attended St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in 2014, where he earned his Master of Arts in Systematic Theology. Currently he is a high school theology teacher at Allentown Central Catholic, a position he’s held for 18 years. He occasionally adjuncts at both DeSales University and LaSalle University, while simultaneously pursuing his Master of Arts in Catholic Philosophy at St. Bernard’s. He is husband to Rachel, and father of four (24yr old twins boy/girl, 3year old daughter, 10 month old daughter). He lives in Allentown, PA.
