June 27th, 2025 will mark the close of the Jubilee for the 350th anniversary of the apparitions of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque in Paray-le-Monial, France. This commemoration will occur at the heart of the universal Jubilee year called by our late holy father, Pope Francis, with the theme ‘Pilgrims of Hope’ and dedicated to a “great symphony of prayer.” The remarkable convergence of these events is expressed in opening words of the official Jubilee prayer:
Father in heaven, may the faith you
have given us in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother, and the flame of charity
enkindled in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,
reawaken in us the blessed hope for the
coming of your Kingdom.
Here hope is reawakened by the enkindling of charity in our hearts, which are enflamed by the Holy Spirit according to the very fire of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In his most recent encyclical, Dilexit Nos [He Loved Us], our late holy father, Pope Francis, emphasizes the need to contemplate the Sacred Heart of Jesus in our age: “the heart of Christ, as the symbol of the deepest and most personal source of his love for us, is the very core of the initial preaching of the Gospel. It stands at the origin of our faith, as the wellspring that refreshes and enlivens our Christian beliefs” (§32).
St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry seeks to contemplate the Sacred Heart of Jesus, celebrate the 350th anniversary of the Sacred Heart apparitions, and mark the Jubilee Year called by our late holy father through a 2-day event with diverse offerings for men and women in upstate New York and beyond.
